The procedure to follow is:

* First check your animals and make sure they do not have symptoms of foot and mouth (it is a good idea to call in your vet to be sure). You will have to sign a declaration stating that your animals are free of foot and mouth.
* Work out how many animals you have, the abattoir may also want to know their weights/quality.
* Ring the abattoir of your choice and book a slot to take the animals.
* Ring your local trading standards and give them the details, they should fax or e-mail you a license or you can collect one in person.
* All animals must be clean and ready for slaughter, any rejected animals will not be able to return to your farm.
